How to Upgrade Your Laptop’s Memory
Is
your laptop performing as well as it could be? Poor performance is
often a problem, especially if you have an older model or want more from
your machine. Below are the main steps you need to take in order to
upgrade your laptop’s memory.
Check to See If Your Laptop Requires More Memory
Before
you decide to upgrade your laptop’s memory, find out how much memory
your laptop actually uses at the moment. Diagnostic tools like the Windows task manager
make it much easier to find out how much of the memory available in
your laptop is actually being used. The memory slots being used and the
slots available are also displayed when you check your memory in this
way.
Look for the Appropriate Memory for Your Laptop
Next, you have to find out what memory you need to install in your laptop. Different models have different requirements, so you have to be aware of this.image: http://cdn.techgyd.com/laptop-memory-upgrade.jpg
Open Your Laptop Panel and Find It’s Memory Banks
Once
you have purchased the right memory for your laptop model, you can
begin your memory upgrade. Make sure there is no power going into the
laptop and that it is turned off. Remove the cover over the memory
banks. Ground yourself by touching a metal surface on your laptop, so
that you remove any static electricity.
Take Out Any Memory That is in the Upper Slot
If
there is already memory in the upper slot of your memory banks, remove
this memory. You do this by gently pushing the clips that hold it in
place. Hold the edges of the memory and lift it out.
Add the Old Memory to the Lower Slot
Once
you have successfully removed the old memory from the upper slot,
install it in the lower slot. It should snap into place and fit
comfortably between the clips in the lower slot of the memory bank.
Install the New Memory in the Upper Slot of the Memory Bank
Add
the new memory to the upper slot of the memory bank. Once again,
carefully place it in this empty slot by inserting it at an angle and
securely put it in place. Once this step is completed, it’s time to
check that everything is working and your upgrade is a success.
To
do this, turn on your laptop again. Go to the Windows task manager
again and check to see if the memory settings and information have
changed. If so, you can start using your laptop again to your heart’s
content and you will soon notice a difference in how it performs.
